How to Draw a Scarf on a Snowman
Remember making a snowman as a kid? It was so exciting to find the hat, the carrot, and the scarf to make him look really authentic. Even though your mittens were completely soaked with melted snow, it was so much fun to put him together. This drawing tutorial will teach you how to draw a snowman.
It's quick and easy and best of all, you don't have to worry about having cold soggy mittens.
These steps are easy enough for anyone to follow. The instructions can be used to draw a simple snowman with a digital drawing tablet or with just a pencil and paper.
It's a great beginner drawing project. The bonus is that you'll be able to upload your finished drawing to Cricut.
Need a shortcut? Here is where to get a snowman coloring page. All you need to do is color it.
You can print the instructions and the template below. Follow this tutorial to learn how to draw an easy snowman.
Make a fun winter wonderland scene by copying and pasting or just by duplicating the first snowman that you made and then drawing different faces, scarves, and hats on each. Once you're done, make a few more and you'll have lots of funny snowmen.

How to Draw an Easy Snowman
Let's start by gathering your materials to draw the snowman.
Drawing Supplies
drawing pencils
Amazon Basics Sketch and Drawing Art Pencil Kit - 17-Piece Set
Mix media paper pad
Canson XL Series Mix Media Paper Pad
Art markers
Tombow 56185 Dual Brush Pen Art Markers
Light table for tracing
LED Light Box 9x12 Inch Light Pad
Digital Art Supplies
Graphic tablet (optional)
Huion H610 Pro Graphic Drawing Tablet 8192 Pen Pressure Sensitivity with Carrying Bag and Glove
I like to use Inkscape. It's an open-source graphic software which means that it's free to use. I use my laptop but if you prefer to work on a tablet, there is even an online drawing app version of Inkscape.
We'll use the calligraphy and brush strokes tool. The settings that I use are in the instruction sheet at the bottom of the post.
If you're making the digital version, make sure that your settings for the calligraphy tool are the same as mine before starting.
How to Draw a Snowman Step by Step
To get started, we'll draw a "C" shape turned on its side.
Pro Tip: Download the template to help you draw the snowman.
Make a Snowman Body
You now have your snowman head and we can draw the body.
Starting on the left side, leave a little space (I'll explain why later) and draw a medium curved line and then a large curved line just below that.
Repeat the same steps on the right side.
You should now have the snowman head and body completed.
Draw the Snowman Scarf
Remember the gap that we left between the snowman's head and body?
Well, we're going to put a scarf on him, right in this space.
To do this, draw a backward number 3 to fill in the gap between the left side of the head and the left side of the body.
Repeat this step on the right side.
From the left side, draw a long flowing line from there down towards the middle of the snowman.
Draw a line from there, across and back towards the top of the 3.
Draw two horizontal parallel lines from the new scarf section that we just made, over to the right number 3.
Under here, we'll draw another hanging piece of the scarf on the right side.
Our snowman now has a cozy scarf to keep him nice and comfy.
Draw the Snowman Arms
The base of the snowman is complete, let's add two twig arms.
Starting on the left side, I'll draw a straight diagonal line upwards and outwards of the snowman.
Then I'll draw three branches at the end of the twig. This sort of looks like a hand.
Your lines won't be straight and that's perfectly fine. In fact, it's better if they are a little wobbly. This makes the twigs look more realistic.
Draw another line from the hand, down towards the body.
Repeat this step on the right side of the snowman.
Draw a Hat for the Snowman
Next up, we're ready to draw a hat on our little snowman.
We'll give him a fancy top hat.
To draw a top hat, draw a wide semicircle from the top of the left side of the head to the top of the right side of the head.
Starting from about halfway into the left side of the circle, draw a straight line up.
From there, draw a curved line to the right.
Now, from there, draw a straight line going down towards the brim of the hat.
All we need now to complete the hat is a decorative trim. To add the trim, draw two curved parallel lines in the middle of the hat.
Now that we've made the top hat for the snowman, let's give him a face.
You can make a cute snowman, a scary snowman or funny face snowman.
I'll show you how to draw a happy snowman face with a little smile.
Draw a Snowman Face
To draw the snowman's face, we'll draw two circles for the eyes and a carrot nose for the snowman.
Draw a curved line and another one above it and close the ends. You just made a smile for him.
Now we have a funny face snowman!
To draw the mouth, we'll draw a horizontal curved line that dips down, goes straight across and comes back up.
Your snowman should now have a complete face.
The snowman drawing outline is complete and you can move on to the next step of coloring the snowman.
Coloring the Snowman Drawing
You're ready to color your drawing of the snowman.
To do this, use the fill bucket tool (fill bounded areas tool). Make sure that your areas are bounded (that means that they are closed with no gaps).
If you have gaps, double click on the gap, zoom in and pull the nodes to close the gap. Watch the video to see how I did this.
Click the fill bucket tool and then click on a color from the color menu bar at the bottom of the screen. Next, click on a section of the snowman to fill it with color.
Repeat this process to color in every section of the snowman.
Click on the body, and then click the fill bucket tool and then click on a light blue color from the color menu bar at the bottom of the screen.
Click on the mouth, and then click the fill bucket tool and then click on the black color from the color menu bar at the bottom of the screen.
Your easy snowman drawing is done.
